ISSW2025 (Chania, Greece) - 20th International Ship Stability Workshop
The 20th International Ship Stability Workshop, ISSW 2025, will be held in Chania, Greece, 1-3 October 2025. The Workshop will be organized by the National Technical University of Athens, under the auspices of the STAB International Standing Committee.
The venue is the hotel Porto Platanias Beach Resort & Spa, located in the village of Platanias, 15 km west of the Chania town in the island of Crete.

The Workshop will take place in parallel with the 20th International Congress of the International Maritime Association of the Mediterranean (IMAM 2025) which will be held at the same venue from September 29 to October 3, 2025. The two events will share a common organizational structure, with a single registration fee granting access to both.
The International Ship Stability Workshop (ISSW) and the International Conference on the Stability and Safety of Ships and Ocean Vehicles (STAB&S) are the most representative professional meetings in the field of ship stability and safety, attracting international top researchers and representatives of shipping companies, shipyards, classification societies, maritime authorities and other stakeholders.
The ISSW focuses on specific subjects on contemporary development in the field of ship stability and safety, inter alia:
- Viscous effects and roll damping,
- Damage stability,
- Mathematical modeling and dynamics,
- Design and operational safety,
- Probabilistic methods to ship stability and safety,
- Application experience with the second generation intact stability criteria and regulatory updates,
- Stability and safety of special vessels,
- Emerging technologies and impact on stability and safety.
The format of the workshop entails in-depth discussions in an informal manner, resulting in a perfect environment for participants who are interested in current research and development in the field. Presentations are generally short, focusing on the challenges of the tackled problem. Authors are normally invited by the session coordinators. However, a small number of unsolicited papers of excellent quality will also be included in the program.
